The Artist's Magazine - Colored Pencil Comes of Age Feature

If you have yet to pick up the May issue of the Artist's Magazine, definitely do! This is a solid issue from front to back and has a variety of skilled artists discussing their craft in detail. I was fortunate enough to have been one of four artists that made it into the "Colored Pencil Comes of Age" article by Maureen Bloomfield. An excellent article to say the least, showcasing the very talented Arlene Steinberg, John P. Smolko & Shawn Falchetti. Pick one up before it's too late!

Also, coming up in a month or so, I'll be featured in the Spring issue of Drawing Magazine so keep an eye out for that. Cheers!

"Last Call", 2013

"Last Call", 2013
colored pencil on frosted acetate
8.5 x 12 inches

Finally, my latest drawing is complete! Of course, there is always room for subtle corrections, but I'll leave this one alone for the time being and move forward to the next round of drawings in the series. You may also recognize the girl in the foreground from my last piece "Salut" and you are correct if you did. This is the 2nd out of at least four drawings that make up parts of a story that play out like stills from a movie. Looking forward to the next two which will reveal even more. To be continued...

An Interview or 2

Hello everyone, thank you for taking time out to glance over my news bits and pieces. Recently, I have been fortunate enough to have been interviewed and/or written about in a couple of spots which I hold in great respect. One being an interview from Prismacolor & the other being from Herron School of Art and Design, my old stomping grounds. The links are listed below.

Artist Portfolio Magazine Issue #7

A few months back I had entered an online "Cover" competition through MyArtContest.com and fortunately received  "Best In Show". This title included a cash prize, cover image and a 4 page feature interview within the latest Artist Portfolio Magazine, Issue #7. I am excited to say the least to have received the award and privilege to be included with all of the talented artists. Congratulations to those who were able to achieve a spot in the publication. Follow the image below to check it out!

"Rhythmic Commodity"

Here is the completed drawing that I've been working on over the past couple of months. Overall I am very pleased with "Rhythmic Commodity", but there is always a sense of "what if I would have done or added...." that always comes along with the process. Regardless, I am extremely happy with the results and I hope you are as well! Cheers!

Latest Drawing In Progress

Here is a detailed closeup of my latest drawing in progress. The inspiration for the piece, with more to come, is that of vintage boudoir photographs. I'm using my medium of choice, Prismacolor Verithin colored pencil over a Dura-lar frosted acetate, with the final image size of 7 x 9 inches. I'll keep you up-to-date with the progress. Enjoy!

Recent Developments & Changes

If you have yet to subscribe to my FB artist page, you’ve probably missed a decent amount of activity as of recent. I cannot begin to describe how humbled I have been by everyone’s kind feedback and willingness to further my vision through these previous months. So before I change topics, I’d like to give a sincere thank you to those who have helped me along the way. Thank you!

Alright, so if you didn’t come across artistaday.com yesterday, you won’t see my feature on their homepage anymore, but you will still be able to access my artist’s page regardless. Feel free to do so and while you’re visiting, make sure to place your rating to encourage more unique visitors to view my work.

On a similar note, but with a more hands-on approach, you can go pick up the latest copy of Bluecanvas magazine, issue 12, which so happens to include my work “Prisoner of One’s Device” under the “Contest” feature. To my surprise, a month after the magazine’s release, I just so happened to be the grand prize recipient! Honored yet perplexed to say the least!

Lastly, I know it has been a while since my last post, but I decided to consolidate and replace my “News” section of my website with this blog and keep my FB artist page as my events manager. From here on out, you'll receive a more casual approach to what I have to say which will be much easier for all of us.

Until next time.
